Lost Games began designing board games in 2012. At first we launched 3 projects; two of them were financed through crowdfunding via Kickstarter, Castle Rising (2013) and The Orcfather (2014). These board games helped us to make our first steps in the world of board game design, as well as developing more ambitious ideas. The third project was Desafío Global (2017), an educational board game we made with the collaboration of the NGO “Madre Coraje” and Junta de Andalucía, which was distributed to several schools in Spain.
PROJECTS
CASTLE RISING (2013)
3 to 6 players
Duration: 60 minutes
It is a Eurogame in which the players must choose an economic strategy to try to create the most prosperous kingdom. They must acquire several resources (food, wood, stone, metal, and gold) to train troops and build buildings to obtain benefits throughout the different stages of the game and win victory points.
Players can get resources through three different ways:
- Using their peasants (each player starts with 3 of them). It must be decided what to produce, as some resources are easier to obtain than others.
- Using the rangers, which players must train first. Training rangers requires several amounts of food and wood.
- Bidding: players must secretly bid for a 5-resources-pack
THE ORCFATHER
The Orcfather is a card game based on a fantasy-themed mafia in which a player’s characters can be orcs, elves, ogres, undead, dwarves and more.
The players form two mafia families that are confronting one another, and each of the families chooses its own “capo” (orcfather) at the start of the game; the goal of the game is to eliminate the head of the rival family.
Each round starts with a planning stage in which each family must secretively prepare the strategy to follow — attack, defend, or business —, but their members cannot speak to one another to develop it. So, they must use only their intuition and body language, predicting the actions of both allies and enemies. Once all players have decided, they act in order.
While the attack and defense actions are somewhat obvious, any business action implies drawing cards from the business deck. These cards can enhance their attacks, potentially save allies from complicated situations, and more.
DESAFÍO GLOBAL (2016)
It is a board game in with 4 countries (4 teams) must compete with each other to achieve the highest level of progress and development. To move forward in the parameters of development (freedom, equality, solidarity and well-being), the players must solve the challenges and urgent alerts related to those parameters using combinations of the different resources (money, politics, social pressure, individual patterns and education).
This boardgame, mainly aimed to highschool students, will make the players reflect on today’s economic and environmental policies and their alternatives.
